smileyCreate positive energy in your life and in your community!

You’re settled into your space, you’ve made your apartment your own, but you’d like to take further steps to make it a peaceful, nourishing HOME. Now, THAT is smart living!

When we take the time to pay attention to the details of our lives, it always pays off! Creating a living space that feeds the soul is perhaps the healthiest thing we can do to promote a sense of well-being overall.

When you’re home at The Green in the Village, it should re-energize, relax and rejuvenate you. If you’re not ‘feelin’ it’, generate some positive energy with these ideas:

1. Make your bed every single day. A freshly made bed makes turning in for the evening a refreshing and relaxing time – something to look forward to after a busy day.

2. Set your coffee pot to brew the next morning while you’re in the shower OR set out your coffee mug and pod the night before. Having coffee ready when you are is like giving yourself a good-morning hug.

3. Always greet your neighbors when you see them. Whether at the pool, in the office or just on the grounds, a friendly hello makes life in The Village community a homey, friendly place.

4. Buy fresh flowers for your apartment frequently. Even the tiniest bouquet brings a sense of life and color to your space.

5. Freshen up your kitchen before you turn in. A messy, grumpy kitchen in the morning is not a pleasant start to the day. But a fresh, happy kitchen is!

6. Include a thank you note with your rent payment on occasion. If the maintenance staff was helpful, send an email saying so!

7. Entertain in your apartment at least once a quarter. Host a wine tasting party or a casual game night with friends or neighbors to enhance the quality of your apartment life.

Create a healthy, positive environment for yourself! You deserve the best!

Eat your way to flat abs

The Fat Fight seems like a never-ending battle for many of us. If you’re like me, you may feel pinned against the ropes every single day!

Somebody just count to 10 and declare a winner already! Sheesh!

I join the host of other women out there who find it’s the belly fat that’s doing them in.  Sadly, women are wired to store fat. It’s a child bearing thing … but it doesn’t seem fair for those of us who aren’t bearing children anymore! My need for fat ended 10 years ago! But in spite of my faithfulness to The Village Health and Fitness Center, I’m still fighting the fight. So, how do I get my abs back?

According to Women’s Health Magazine, eating an Acronym can lead to lean, mean and FLAT abs in no time FLAT! By incorporating the elements of the acronym ABS DIET POWER, we can eat our way to a slimmer, firmer waistline. And we don’t have to give up the YUM factor, either!

Can eating the acronym ABS DIET POWER help you win the Fat Fight? Read for yourself and give it a try.

Back To School Daze

The frivolity of summer is coming to a close as families and students gear up for school.

Late nights by the Village pool are fast becoming a thing of the past for many while parents of young kids figure out the game-plan for the first day of school.  If you find yourself in the SCHOOL ZONE, you know that adjustments must be made!

The key to nearly any successful venture is a certain amount of planning. This is especially true for the young students in our lives. There are snack packs to be created, schedules to be firmed and the dreaded organization of the school clothes. It’s a big job.

I’m convinced that the success of implementing the school routine hinges on how you handle the night before. By tending to just a few tasks the night before school, the morning will go much more smoothly.

  1. Set out the breakfast accoutrements. Bowl, spoon, cereal box … everything but the moo-juice sits ready for its big moment.
  2. Set out the clothing all the way down to the skivvies.
  3. Pack the backpack the night before and have it sitting by the door.

How about you? How do you prepare for Back-to-school?

Visiting the Dallas Zoo? There's and APP for that!

Dallas Zoo is the first zoo in North Texas (and 2nd in the state) to introduce an App to keep you informed UP TO THE MINUTE as you tour the zoo.

Don’t want to miss a demonstration or a feeding time? No problem! Just download “search Dallas Zoo” on your iPhone and you’ll receive news (in English or Spanish) that will keep you “in the know” and in the loop all during your visit to the zoo.  “As the summer unfolds there will be daily changes, no two visits being exactly the same,” says Sean Greene, Deputy Director for Education and Interpretation. “The new Dallas Zoo iPhone app can keep guests up to date about what’s new that week at the Giants of the Savanna and throughout the Zoo.”

Don’t miss the African Elephants at play or an exciting event at the Gorilla Conservation and Research Center.  If there’s a change in the Zoo schedule, you’ll be the first to know.  When your tummy starts rumbling, use your iPhone app to find the closest feeding trough for your hungry animals or to find the location of the unique zoo gift shops and even the restrooms  in proximity to where you are in the park.

The app is free and will help you find your way as you navigate the zoo.  You won’t get lost, you won’t miss out, you won’t believe how easy it is to see it all at the Dallas Zoo!  And you’re less than a 30 minute drive away!

Crow’s signature style has gained her a huge fan base that’s growing with every song release.  This Missouri native was raised in Memphis which accounts for her love of music. Starting out as a teacher of music in an elementary school, Crow met music producer Jay Oliver and from there, recorded advertising jingles for McDonald’s and Toyota.

If It Makes You Happy is one of her best known recordings and my personal Fav!
